What Is StabiliTrak?

If you drive a Chevy vehicle, then you’ve probably heard of the StabiliTrak system, but what is this system, and what does it do? The StabiliTrak Chevy system is a standard safety system on all vehicles sold under the GM brand, which includes Chevy, and it works to give you better traction control on the Hannibal roads. Learn how this system is different from other similar systems with Shottenkirk Chevrolet, and visit our dealership for all of your service and parts needs.

How Does StabiliTrak Work?

The StabiliTrak system works to keep your vehicle moving in a straight line on the Monroe City% roads once you already start driving. The StabiliTrak sensors monitor the position of the steering wheel and tires in comparison to the direction in which you are driving. If you encounter slippery road conditions and start to swerve, then the StabiliTrak system will start to correct your positioning.

StabiliTrak vs. Traction Control

Though the StabiliTrak Chevy system works very similarly to standard traction control, the two systems differ slightly. To get an idea of how these two systems work differently, here are some key points about each system:

  • Standard traction control is a type of traction control system, while StabiliTrak is a type of stability control system.
  • Traction control measures wheelspin and controls it by using the anti-lock braking system to apply braking pressure to slow down a spinning wheel.
  • StabiliTrak sensors monitor the steering wheel and direction of the vehicle, and they apply appropriate amounts of pressure to one side of the vehicle rather than just certain wheels.
  • It’s impossible to have stability control and traction control without the anti-lock braking system.

Service StabiliTrak Light

You’ve more than likely seen the “service StabiliTrak” light come on when driving through Cholchester.
