Vehicle technology is changing quickly these days, but one thing still remains the same – TPMS. TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This feature is a network of sensors within your vehicle that track air pressure in each of your tires. If the system senses that you have low air pressure in any of your tires, the TPMS dashboard warning light will turn on or flash. If you’re seeing this light, then it’s time to add air to your Silverado 1500 or Equinox tires. After all, maintaining proper air pressure will help prevent tire failure and allow your vehicle to handle the roads better while driving throughout Hannibal and Monroe City.
The TPMS exists to track the air pressure inside of your tires and to alert you if the levels drop below what’s recommended. The TPMS dashboard warning light might look like a flat tire with an exclamation mark in the middle, or it might simply read out the letters “TPMS”. When you see this symbol or see these letters, this means your tires are underinflated and you are at risk of the following:
Something like low air pressure may seem minor and it’s easy to ignore the TPMS warning light, but you shouldn’t! The Tire Pressure Monitoring System is an important feature in your vehicle, and you should heed warnings while traveling throughout Cholchester.
We’ve talked about the risks of under-inflated tires, but you should also know that over-inflation can be harmful, as well! Properly inflated tires will:
Tire pressure maintenance is an easy task you can do yourself to stay safe and reduce maintenance costs over the long term. Consult your owner’s manual for instructions specific to your vehicle. Then head to a nearby gas station with a tire filling station. In a pinch? A bike pump can work, too!
